Ending BT contract

Go to solution

How soon, before the end of my contract, can I change provider without penalty?

@Piecringe

How to view your contract terms

First of all you need to go to this page. https://www.bt.com/appsordermgmt/secure/listoforders.do
Then select the order that you wish to view, and on the top right there will be a link saying "Show contract terms"

If you leave before the end of your contract, you will have to pay cancellation charges, and possible deferred charges for any BT supplied equipment, like the BT Home Hub.

But I haven’t ordered anything so I have no order to view.

You should see your original order in the list of orders, that is the one you need to look at.

I don’t understand that but thanks anyway. So there is no 49 day grace period as there is in electricity contracts?

Re: Ending BT contract

You can be charged an early termination fee and equipment fee with 1 day left on the contract, so always best to choose the switch date on or after your minimum term ends.

You can however negotiate a new promotion in your last 90 days of the minimum term, a new contract would replace the old contract without penalty.

If you're not switching and want to cease then you must give 30 days notice and can do so up to 6 weeks in advance, just select the end date outside the minimum term.

What happens when my BT contract ends on the 15th May? Is it automatically renewed. Could I then leave penalty free?

It goes onto a monthly rolling contract which you can cancel within 30 days without penalty.

@Piecringe

the problem with going on to rolling monthly contract is that all your discounts will cease and you will start paying full price for your package which could be a substantial monthly increase
