Equipment return error?

Have recently signed up for a further two years with BT broadband and landline, partly because I have no fibre to my house, partly 'cause they did at least mend my overhead lines during the first lockdown and partly apathy. I didn't change my deal or ask for anything new...

Today I received a plastic bag in the mail "to return our kit" - what kit? I looked on here to find multiple similar posts, and rang BT to confirm that it was their mistake. This kind of incompetence makes me question my decision, so maybe next time I'll go with Sky or similar!
