Ethernet/RJ11 to an outbuilding

Hi,

I currently have tried Complete Wifi and Wholehome Wifi and they don't quite work the way I Would like. I am trying to extend our broadband to an outbuilding that will be used occasionally by guests and would like to separate this from our own internet by some sort of Guest Network (the Wholehome wifi didn't quite do the trick)

The outbuilding has an old BT Master socket, is there a way of connecting this BT Master Socket to my existing router in the main building, by changing any of the cabling?

The cable to the BT Master sockets should go to the telegraph pole or distribution point outside the house, so you can’t change it to extend the data.
A few options:
1. If you have the same power distribution (consumer fuse unit) then powerlines device would work between the HUB and the out building assuming the power cables are in good condition. Allowing you to add a hotspot in the out building.
2. If you have a protected low volt route between buildings (i.e. not with any power) then run a data cable (CAT5 cable and a socket each end) between the HUB and out building and use the Whole Home disc for the Wi-Fi and Guest mode.

Thanks for the replies.

The outbuilding does have the cable going to the telegraph pole from the house but this doesn't matter as we will currently not look to set this building up with internet but use our own, so I was trying to see if the hole in the house could be utilised including the BT plug (which strangely is junctioned in the attic with a BT RJ11 extension cable across to the room which has a master socket in it)

I am currently using the whole Home Wifi but the limitation on this is I appear to be having to use 3 dishes just to go approx 5m distance. Why would I need to hard wire the Whole Home Wifi between the 2 or is this to make it a more secure set up?

Annoyingly it appears you also cannot connect devices like Google Home Speaker or Sonos Speaker to a Guest Network for Guests to use?

What I didn't like about this set up is you have to have one of the discs permanently connected to the Smart Hub, and then another disc half way to the location which has a "dead spot" or where I am looking to provide WiFi.

I've also been advised that to set up a Guest Network I would need a router that supported VLANs, is that what the Whole Home Wifi is doing, creating its own VLAN?

How would your suggestion work with the Whole Home Disc, have one connected to my Hub and then use a second port to connect from my Hub to a second Disc within the other Property using some Shielded Cat5e?

To save all of this I am guessing I should therefore just connect an outdoor Shielded Cat5e cable to the other property and use an AP to provide Guest Network and Wifi?

Hi I have no information on VLAN, but you can connect more than one of the Whole Home discs to the HUB using additional CAT5 Cables, so extending the range as long as you keep to the max of 6 discs.
So I would install two discs in each building making sure the one nearest 2nd property has a solid Blue LED, put the 3rd in the outbuilding ( nearest location ) , even if the Whole Home is showing Amber that's OK its just connecting using 2.4GHz and not the faster 5GHz Wi-Fi.
I have Google Home Speaker and a Sonos Speaker so I will test this for you using my Guest Network. I have checked you can't see my Sonos from the Guest network, so visitors can't start changing my music.

Okay perfect. So if you were able to advise on how to connect the Google Home Speaker this would be great, because when I tried it gave a message advising the speaker was connected but could not sync with the device I was using because of some sharing protocol and when you went to the Help part (you couldn't move on from the screen unless you did this) it showed a 2 step process, first was to change the router being used out of AP Mode, and the next step was to change to some sort of port forwarding and changing UpNp to some other setting?

It also says that Google Home cannot work on a guest or hotel network so if you could advise how yours is set up this would be fantastic. Thank you.

This was a very similar message given when you try to connect -

Enable: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), multicast, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) and to
Disable: AP/client isolation, virtual private networks (VPNs), proxy servers, IGMP Proxy. VPNs and proxy servers should be disabled on your computer as well (if applicable).

Hi I tested the Google Home (Mini) on my Whole Home Guest SSID I an I could 't get it to find the device via the Wi-Fi, so it looks like it can't connect. as to Sonos One, that looked to work with no issues.
However I did notice you can open Google Home Mini as a speaker up to guests. also it has Bluetooth.
