Ethernet connection drops

Go to solution

Hello,

This is my first time here so please be kind.

I have had my BT Home hub3 for 8 days now. I have only been able to connect to internet briefly (5 secs) with the ethernet connection yet with my wireless it's perfect. I rang up BT and had a line check done and everything is fine.

Does anyone know why my ethernet connection is not working?

Many thanks

Eddie

Re: Ethernet connection drops

have you tried all the ethernet ports on the back of the HH3?  are you sure your driver for your network card is up to date?  if not then go to manufacturers website and get update.  have you tried a different ethernet cable?

Re: Ethernet connection drops

Hi Eddie937 and welcome

Navigate to Network and Sharing Centre

Click on Manage network connections

Right click on your Local Area Connection2 and select Properties

Double left click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4)

Are there any IP address settings in the results or is obtain an IP address automatically selected?

If there are any, delete them and opt for the auto option.

Reboot, disconnect the wireless connection, connect by ethernet and see how it goes.....

I looked at the stuff you said above and its all fine. Rebooted and connected ethernet cable. It connected for about 5 secs then said a network cable is unplugged. It then re connected after 10 secs then disconnected after 30 secs.

It keeps doing this.

Any more ideas?

Also i have tried to connect 2 other computers with the ethernet cable and the same happens on them.

s it something to do with the hub settings?

Re: Ethernet connection drops

Is "the ethernet cable" the same one or have you tried another one?

Have you tried the other Ethernet ports on the rear of the hub?

I'd also disconnect all devices from the hub, press the little red reset button on the rear of the hub for about 3-4 seconds, allow the hub to reboot and try connecting a PC by cable again.

If it still drops I'd have to say the hub is faulty....

Re: Ethernet connection drops

I could be wrong but it sounds like the ethernet cable could be the problem, but if it has been changed and it's still saying network cable unplugged then I would say its the network card, as you mentioned it happens on other pc's/laptop i'm at a loss other than saying get updated drivers for network cards on all pc's/laptop

You need to rule out the cable - maybe borrow one from a neighbour?

I will see my neighbour later to see if i can borrow his cable.

I've been to Marvell website and updated the driver and it still drops 😞

Before i was using the update driver button from device manager but that update was only 2007 now i have a 2011 update from Marvell.
