Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

I suspect they only install approx the same amount of copper as there are ports on the installed cards. so if more cards go in they need more copper.

Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

Usually a 100pair cable will link the two cabs with additional capacity added (either another 100 or 50) when needed.

Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

Does nobody in BT do forward thinking? In an affluent village that has <1M ADSL it doesn't take a genius to work out demand for VDSL will be very high. The cost of providing a 200pair cable over a 100pair must be miniscule compared with the cost of going back and providing a second cable. Even if existing duct space is tight (I suspect they used an existing D side duct for the link cable in our case), the physical size of a 200 pair is not that greater than a 100pair. It will still have been cheaper to provide the extra duct and larger cable at day1 anyway.

Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

Even before they switched us on BT posted that we were a 'High Demand' area, so it begs a question as to why greater capacity wasnt fitted in the first place. Smiley Frustrated

Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

The fact remains that your data rate speed are below the predicted speeds for Range B which is the range used for self-installation.

If you can try the test socket and repost your helpdesk stats you may be able to see if your extension wiring is the problem.

Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

Ok, so, appears we made a bit of a mistake when installing. We simply replaced the Home Hub where it already was, which was at the end of an ethernet extension from the master socket.

We have had a fiddle and moved stuff around, enabling all we need to move the HH5 to the master socket. Ive also replaced the HH telephone wire to a short twisted pair cable. It also appears we dont have a filtered faceplate (one ordered) So here are the new stats, greatly improved but still not where I believe it should be?

Re: Exchange now fibre, slow speeds?

The stats are very improved, and a SSFP should improve them even more
