Does nobody in BT do forward thinking? In an affluent village that has <1M ADSL it doesn't take a genius to work out demand for VDSL will be very high. The cost of providing a 200pair cable over a 100pair must be miniscule compared with the cost of going back and providing a second cable. Even if existing duct space is tight (I suspect they used an existing D side duct for the link cable in our case), the physical size of a 200 pair is not that greater than a 100pair. It will still have been cheaper to provide the extra duct and larger cable at day1 anyway.
Even before they switched us on BT posted that we were a 'High Demand' area, so it begs a question as to why greater capacity wasnt fitted in the first place.
Ok, so, appears we made a bit of a mistake when installing. We simply replaced the Home Hub where it already was, which was at the end of an ethernet extension from the master socket.
We have had a fiddle and moved stuff around, enabling all we need to move the HH5 to the master socket. Ive also replaced the HH telephone wire to a short twisted pair cable. It also appears we dont have a filtered faceplate (one ordered) So here are the new stats, greatly improved but still not where I believe it should be?
