Re: FTTC ordering issue...BT Wholesale or Openreach records issue?

Go to solution
Cheers. The other issue with Sky is they made it nigh on impossible to use your own router hardware (they never gave out your username/password for the service), so i was stuck with the Sky hub as they want a closed system.

At least now I can pick and choose my own router/FW if the Smart Hub 2 doesn't work as intended.

What capability does it have on firewalling? I see you can use parental controls to restrict the internet to certain devices? On the sky hub it was a manual config to lock out a static IP to a device in DHCP settings, then set up rules in the firewall GUI to block in/outbound traffic to that IP to/from external sources.

Here's a view of EE's smart router (rebranded SH2) the BT one is the same.

One thing to note. the black discs you can get with the SH2 will not work with another router only the SH2.

The white ones will work with any router but you have to buy them.

@pippincp - quick one, with the wifi disc extenders - can i just buy one? The Hub seems to cover most of the house but the lounge is patchy so i dont need 2-3 discs, just one. Can i buy the 'add on' disc without having more?

thanks.

@AOtrig

I can answer that.

https://www.bt.com/broadband/accessories/

Look at the bottom of the page, they are quite expensive, and there are much cheaper options.

You do not get the BT Complete Wifi Guarantee if you buy them yourself.

Thanks. Was planning on one of the white premium  ones as they work with any router apparently?

Bit cheaper than BT direct too.

You would need a minimum of two, as one needs to be connected to the home hub Ethernet port, all of the time.
