OK I have been following a user called JIO22 on the plusnet forums as he was suffering similar lag issues in Fifa. He is now resolved as he has moved to SKY and is very happy ( he has been posting on this issue for years)
Reading the post it seems that the exchange uses different kit Huawei MSAN compared to BT using Fujitsu MSAN.
This could be the problem we are all experiencing.
Please dont lock this - as this is a NEW valid point which could be causing the lag...
To be honest, I think it's going to be so difficult to test or prove anything here.
Your traffic passes through many, many devices before it gets to your ISP (far more than you would realise).
Fibre is different - Sky/Talk Talk and BT Retail use exactly the same Openreach exchange equipment (i.e. there is no LLU FTTC exchange equipment). There is an optical termination card (where the fibre from your cabinet connects) and then a Layer 2 Switch (GEA Ethernet Link) which is essentially a handover point for the BT Wholesale 21CN network (ISPs like BT Retail, Plusnet etc.) and the ISPs with their own backhaul (Sky/TalkTalk).
Have you tried doing some wireshark captures?
This probably won't tell you where the problem is, but it could show why you're having a problem. BT Retail would then need to look at the data to figure out where the problem is in the network.
You would need them to get one of their network ops guys to look at it - this could be a challenge 😞
yeah it certainly does and then with all the data what would i do with it?
i really think its something in my local cabinet which is causing it........
like the plusnet changed and it fixed so its gotta be something like that!
