Hello, I currently have a BT router it says on the 192.168 thing that i can add a vpn but when i asked TorGuard they told me that they wouldnt recommend me using this router since it hasnt got OpenVPN support any idea or recommendations on things i can do?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I use an Asus DSL-AC68U which has OpenVPN support.
If you have a G.Fast connection then you'd need the DSL-AC88U and there aren't many others with G.Fast support.
would it bridge to my current router?
Why would it need to? Its a replacement for it.
(Ahh sorry i was being stupid XD)
Would this work for my vpn though they said they use openVPN (tbh i not big into routers so idk much) sorry
If you're referring to my Asus suggestions then yes they would both work with your VPN provider as the Asus range support OpenVPN as both a client & a server, in your case a client.
I can recommend a Raspberry Pi running pivpn and Wireguard. This has advantages over Openvpn. I chose this method as a cost effective solution as I saw no need to change my Smarthub 2.
Could you tell me about how it compares to a normal vpn? for speed as i will be using this for my flat for the whole wifi and also how good security is?
Not sure what you mean by a "normal" VPN. This is server used to allow safe and secure access to your LAN (webcams, NAS drive etc) when away from home. It does away with the need to forward ports and enable UPNP which places you at risk.
The Wireguard VPN uses streamlined code and is considered faster than OpenVPN.
ahh i am looking for something to keep my ip away from people online as well as keep my data more secure would it do that?
