Fttp equipment question

Hi all

I have moved house and my new house has fttp, where as the old one had fttc.

So I spent an hour on phone with Sales support and ordered up ultra fast 300 with halo 1 which I am more than happy with.

The sales guy said I can still use my Smart Hub 2..

Now I have been looking online and I see that BT fttp installs have an ONT open reach modem to connect to the FTTP.

I haven't seen this in the house and I have located a regular looking NT5c master socket with a filter plugged in, must be the previous owners.

Does my SM2 just plug into that with the phone cable and it will give me 300mb ?

If it is FTTP then you should see an ONT which the sh2 will connect to provided sh2 has a wan port on back.  Is it possible you are getting G.FAST which will connect to the existing master socket

@danielshaw007, welcome to the community and thanks for posting, was an engineer appointment made when you spoke with sales? FTTP can be self install if you already have the ONT in your home but an engineer visit is needed if you don't.

As far as I'm aware G.Fast orders are managed installs at the moment so an appointment is also required if this technology is going to be used to deliver the broadband service.

I googled g.fast it could be this never knew it existed.

No mention of an engineer visit at all. Said as I already have the SH2 then I can use this but a new one has arrived today anyway. Been quoted 300mb download and 50mb upload.

I'll just see what happens come activation next week.

@danielshaw007, if the previous occupants had G.Fast it may not need another visit. Post back and let us know how the installation goes.

What results do you get if you put your address into this checker?  It should let you know if FTTP or GFast is available in your area.

What does it say on the back of the new SH2 box at the bottom left hand corner ? Mine says SH2 FTTP 3.0

Also if you look at the "Let's get started" leaflet, find it under the new SH2, that will tell you how it is to be connected up. Mine shows the ONT etc. Sorry don't know what it would show for G.Fast.

Update for all who kindly replied

Openreach engineer knocked on the door today, Ive been up and down the street and there is NO FTTP here im sorry to say. Seems they have 2 roads and 2 postcodes mixed/combined.

SK13 2NX is "Woolley Bridge" this has no FTTP. There is however a "Woolley Bridge Road" which does have FTTP but the post codes on openreach seem to be the same.

As you can imagine im very gutted to say the least. The cabinet for FTTC is on the "Woolley Bridge Road" address and the lad reckons Id get about 40mb due to the distance. 80mb to 300mb, to 40mb lol..

Now I still have no internet and after being on hold to BT for 3 hours before I gave up, I still need to ring BT to place the FTTC order which I imagine will be another 2 week wait, If i ever get through to them.

My phoneline activation date is today but I dont have a handset to plug in and see if thats actually been switched on at the right address.
