G,Fast and Ordering Question

Go to solution

We are expecting G.Fast to be available soon in our area as the street cabinet has been updated (Bedford Cab 107), and looking at the BT ordering page for areas where it is already available there is an upfront cost of £60.

I assume the £60 is for a Smart Hub 2, but I already have one of these so will there be an option to order without the £60 fee?

Any heads up when I will be able to order?

Regards

I assume if you tell the helpdesk that you have one, then they should be able to wave the fee. Are you sure you have a Smart Hub 2 though, because it looks very different to the original Smart Hub, and you have to buy it separately if you don't upgrade to BT Plus/the g.fast service.

I do indeed have a Smart Hub 2, it's  G.Fast ready, and much nicer looking that Smart Hub 1

Shouldn't be a problem ordering then, just tell them you already have one.

Hi @Christine. There's a £50 activation charge for the Ultrafast broadband package and a £9.99 delivery fee for the hub. If you've a Smart Hub 2 already you'll be able to avoid the delivery fee but the activation charge would still be applicable.

Hi Neil,

Well £50 activation fee for existing (loyal) customers seems a bit unfair?

Guess better to take the 'free' Hub 2 for £9.99 charge then sell it on Ebay for £60 to cover my costs?

@Christine I'm sorry you feel the activation fee is unfair, currently the G.Fast service requires a specialist engineer visit to your home to do the install and ensure your connection is working at the best possible speed. The activation fee of £50 goes towards the overall cost of this engineering work.

Hi Neil,

But I've already read somewhere that self install will soon be available?

Guess if you want to be an early adopter of the tech you have to pay extra?

Best I wait until the install charge has gone which I'm sure will be as soon as people don't sign up in enough numbers
