General broadband speed

I was wondering if someone could tell me if this is normal behaviour. I'm connected to cabinet 3 in winchburgh, West Lothian and after a recent upgrade at the exchange speeds went from around 5mb to 10mb. But I've noticed that during the evening this drops to around 2mb. Is this normal and Do I have to live with it 🤔

Re: General broadband speed

Which BT Home hub do you have?

ADSL2+ connection speeds do not normally vary, but download speeds can be affected by line noise, or congestion.

Line noise does tend to increase in the evening, as people turn on TVs, and other electrical devices.

Is your phone line quiet?

The cabinet your line passes through has no bearing on connection speed, as ADSL2+ comes from the exchange.

Re: General broadband speed

I've got a superhub. The line has a background noise. It's not crystal clear

I assume you mean the BT Home hub 6?

Please can you post the information from the home hub 6, using this link.

http://192.168.1.254/0000012803/gui/#/technicalLog/information

If you dial 17070 and select option 2, the line should be silent between announcements.

Re: General broadband speed

Yes it only appears to happen in the evening. When I work from home during the day I get nearly 10mb, but in the evening it's closer to 2mb

Re: General broadband speed

your conenction speed looks about right for your 36db attenuation  if drop off is only at night and maybe weekends sounds like congestion on your Winchburgh exchange

are you conencting with wired or wireless?
