@Dawnrazor_uk  Yes currently I am seeing the same although it was working a few days ago so it may not be an issue directly related to the Next Gen update

It was working fine in my box until the update - then it was back to the old style text. I keep checking it every hour or so - think it what got used most in my box!

@Dawnrazor_uk Given that the most recent change I can detect on my box is a change to the BBC Iplayer that appeared in the past few days my initial suspicions are with the BBC.

@Keith_Beddoe  Red button+ working fine here since the update. Choosing text via the BBC radio channels is still the only way I can get to the old style text.

@MrBelter  how true.

I only have a Retail YouView box bought from John Lewis, and have updates blocked for the moment, as my wife, who uses the box, dislikes any changes. She makes a lot of FreeView series recordings, so she would not like the new picture tiles Smiley Sad

I need to block this update for some older relatives until I get a chance to update their box and walk them through the changes as if their box updates they just won't be able to use it as they just about manage with the existing interface. Something BT really haven't thought about.
Have you done this by blocking the relevant sites (listed on the YouView website) via BT 'parental controls' or some other way? Can particular websites be blocked in a HH5? Thanks.

I block it using OpenDNS, but you may be able to do it via Parental controls.

You need to block the following sites.

www.humaxtvportal.com

updates-live.youview.tv

config-live.youview.tv

According to my OpenDNS logs, four attempt are made to these sites, every 24 hours.

I think the humax one is the main one where the software update is coming from.

You cannot do it on any of the home hubs.

Except that the same iPlayer change has been made on Freesat and the red button+ service continues to work as normal on that platform (using a Humax HDR-1000S).

Why do some people perpetuate the view that older people are incompetent technophobes?  My neighbour has a BT Youview box with the latest update - she is 84.  I popped in to see how she was doing generally and she asked me what I thought of the new update.  She got the update last week and reckons it took her no more than 10 minutes to be fully conversant with the changes.

She likes the new UI and said she thought the old one was looking a bit dated and needed a refresh Smiley Happy   Reading many of the posts in this thread I think some on this forum should take a leaf out of her book regarding 'change' and having a positive outlook. Smiley Wink

Are you still using gas mantles and a pump handle for the water from your well in the garden?  I just cannot fathom why people cling like limpets to the past.  If we all adopted that attitude we would still be using DOS and progress would be at a standstill.  The new UI is easy to use and easy on the eye, what's not to like?

There are things that need fixing e.g. the ability to enter the minutes into the recording time-bar which is now missing.  Oh and what about the most glaring ommission in this and every other version of Youview i.e. 'a recording buffer'.  I would also support the option of having a 'list view' rather than the present arrangement, but overall it's a pretty good update. Smiley Happy

Re: Red button + not working after new update

There's a discussion about how to stop your box from updating here:

https://community.youview.com/youview/topics/how-to-prevent-your-box-updating-to-next-generation

Using parental controls is the cheapest option - to effectively disconnect the box from the internet overnight.

Re: Red button + not working after new update

It has nothing to do with not embracing change BUT in this case change has led to changes which aren't for the better and which have been picked up on by many users. If Youview had taken the previous model and built on it then this update of sorts could have been given a huge thumbs up by everyone. However, they chose instead to remove some functionality and replace it with software which has been ill thought out and poorly implemented. Instead of dwelling on the look they should've been looking at better implementing functions which were near perfect as they were, not taking them 2 laughable steps back.

Possible because you've never met the people I'm referring to and I have personal experience of how they handle technology!

Re: New YouView Layout

I am appalled and horrified with the new layout on the 'new' bt tv service it is almost impossible to find previously recorded programmes as you only see a brief tile. Are there any prospects of getting the previously perfectly acceptable list format? The list's were so easy to navigate. What are Bt playing at? Dumbing down and improving things worse again!

Can anyone please tell me if Sky have this ludicrous method of navigation?

I guess the only way will be to move away from bt for TV and move to SKY. A shame as I've been very pro bt until now.

Another annoying thing is that if you have two series linked programmes with the same name ( ie s1 and s6 of wheeler dealers) they are put on the same set of tiles. Perhaps it did this before, however now it's really difficult to see which is the new series. Also no actual way to filter buy watched programmes so how are you meant to clear HD space ?

The programme descriptions seem to have got WORSE ! They now seem to have stopped even trying to put the episode numbers in.

I don't know abut the new Sqy Q but certainly the normal Sky HD has a traditional list format, with a thumbnail that pops up when you highlight a programme in your planner if I remember correctly. ( what a good idea!)

This update is just badly designed and poorly implemented. The testing seems to have centered around the question 'can we get away with this?'

They should have hired a proper User Interface specialist to get it right in the first place since it' going to difficult to fix this now IMHO.

Having said that it's still probably cheaper than Sky even if I negotiate a 60% discount so since I don't want Sky 1 then I guess I'll probably stay with BT.

When I go into a series the stack has dates of recording against each episode so why is that a problem?  BTW from what I've been reading SkyQ is an even bigger dog's breakfast.
