Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

Just wanted to share my experience  of replacing my HH5 with a TP Link VR 400 and Google NEST Wifi, this morning.

It did take me awhile to setup and i think part of that was me being impatient and not allowing either devices to fully bootup, but anyway this how i have it working.

in the TP Link VR400.

From the Menu on the Left hand side of the Web interface, you should go into Network>Internet

Add an internet connection

VLAN ID enable, i entered value 101

Internet connection type drop down : Bridged

Save and reboot,

once that is done , you can setup the Nest Router

within the home app, you will have the option during the setup to enter the PPPoE settings, here i entered

username: bthomehubuser@btbroadband.com

password:bt

Hope that helps.

Re: Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

There wouldn't be any need for the Tp Link if the OP was on FTTP.

So does that mean you have gotten Google WiFi Nest working with BT Broadband ?

Trying to set this up.

Re: Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

Hi

Any more details on the setup ?   Did you switch off DHCP and Wireless on the TP Link and setup all this on the Nest ?  What is plugged into what in terms of ports ?   Which is running firewall ?   Out of interest which IP ranges are you running (I have a network on 10.0.0.1-255 running at the moment).   Any additional information as to how you made this work much, much appreciated.

Thanks

SP

Re: Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

By placing the tp link into bridge mode the google.nest handles everything ,, the only other thing I did was to turn off the WiFi on the tp link.

I have a lan cable between port 1 on the tp link and the nest router.

Are you having issues?

Re: Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

Not yet with this setup. I started to have loads of issues with the Nest so I backed out of the setup and posted on here to see if anyone had sorted it. I just bought a TP Link VR 400 so will have a go at setting it up shortly.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

Yes - defiantly having issues !   I put the Archer into Bridge mode and then setup the Nest Router, and the Points yesterday and everything was working perfectly.   I even connected Philips Hue at the most extreme point of the network and could turn on and off the lights by voice.

This morning however I had no internet and something was clearly wrong.  After a few hours of faffing about I have now pulled everything out and re-instated the previous setup.   What caused me to get to this state was the fact that I can't seem to factory rest the Nest Router.  I've re-booted several times and held down the reset button for 10 seconds but nothing happens, no yellow light.  I can't seem to connect to the Nest Router at all now.  Very exasperating !

Re: Google Nest Wifi and TP Link VR400

I do recall I did once have to go through the setup process again on the nest router and it was a pain.

I believe this is what I might of had to do .

Delete the WiFi network from with the home app

Connect to the router using the WiFi ssid given out by the router from the WiFi settings in your phone  and then use the home app for setup
