Just had a message that my email password has been changed. I treat it as phishing message and go into my account not using any links in the message, through the normal mail links and mail app. Cannot log in.
I follow the procedure to change my password and it does change but still logged out due to too many attempts. Awaiting the 15 mins to pass. 15 mins pass and I can log in OK.
Question is, is this a glitch?
I would not treat it as a glitch until you are satisfied that your account was not compromised.
Have you checked the links in the email you received to see where they would take you? You can do that by hovering your mouse over the link.
Have you checked the headers of the email to see where it originated from?
You should log onto your email account via a browser and go into the settings to ensure that forwarding of your emails has not been set up.
Consider changing your security questions.
If you use the same password across other accounts such as your bank you should change the password on those accounts.
Inform your contacts that you may have been hacked so that they can be on the look out for any phishing/scam emails purporting to be from your email account.

Computer up to date (iMac). Not looked into the email via browser for some days I think.
Message popped up on my phone, text/messaging system. All work carried out on my desk top through the normal way. Few minutes to changing password again.
Security questions changed.
Not sure on forward rules.
Password is unique and randomly generated. No words to guess.
Good shout on the contacts.
You must check your forwarding.
If you are on the BTMail system and not the BTYahoo system you log onto your email account via a browser and click on your username at the top right. Then click on settings > Mail > Auto Forward > check to see if anything has been set up. If it has and it was not put there by you, take a note of the email address then delete it.
I am not on the BTYahoo email system so I may be wrong with this but I think that BTYahoo does not have the ability to forward emails.
Thanks. Never used the forward so didn't know where it was, rattling around all the other bits and didn't know about the user option. Checked and OK. Nothing set up. I have never really used online mail other than a quick look see.
Now my Apple mail apps are not connecting and I can OK through the browser. OK a few minutes ago.

Presumably you have entered the new password into all your devices. Once you have done that you are best to turn your devices off for at least an hour to prevent them trying to get check for emails. This will give the servers a chance to sync the new password.
If you still have a problem, when you change your BT password on an iPhone/iPad/Apple device it may only change for INCOMING mail.
To change the outgoing mail password you have to go into Settings; then scroll down to Passwords & Accounts or on older devices Mail, Contacts, Calendars. From there select the BT email account and select the account where it is listed under IMAP.
You will find the details for the account and can change the password for the Incoming server there, the outgoing mail server only shows SMTP and mail.btinternet.com You have to tap on that Primary Server in order to find where the Outgoing password is hidden so you can update it.
Ensure that you are using the correct settings as per this link.
Thanks for that but OK with the setting on the mac in the accounts. Just started to all work, the test mail bouncing back quickly now. Leaving devices alone for this evening.
Thanks for the help with the forwarding. The password change is a mystery, reckon 10 mins tops till I changed it even though I could not log back in.

One thought just occurred, when I changed my password, I got a confirmation pin number from BT before I could complete it. Didn't happen the first time around when the initial change text came through. Making me think hiccup.
More likely a phishing text/message but I suppose it may have been a hiccup/glitch when you tried to change it but as I said, don't assume it is without carrying out relevant checks and changes. Nothing lost by doing that, lots to lose by not doing it.
