Has BT Email has changed the way POP3 works when messages are downloaded?

I use POP3 to download messages to my PC. In the past when using POP3 the messages downloaded were deleted from the server but remained in the Trash/Deleted items folder on the server.  Now they appear to be deleted completely. I found the fact that the messages were still in the Trash folder useful as I could access that from my Android devices using IMAP. Is this a change caused by the move from Yahoo to BT mail? I have a memory that there was a setting in the BTinternet webmail that used to control this. There is no such setting now that I can find. I know there are Outlook client settings that allow you to retain a copy of the messages on the server, but that's not quite what I wanted as those messages remain in the inbox, not deleted into the trash folder which can be set to remove messages after a set period. The BT internet mail rules on the web are very basic and don't allow anything very clever in this respect. Has anyone else noticed this? I've checked my client settings and they seem to be correct according to the BT & Microsoft pages I've read.

Yes, it has changed. Discussed at length somewhere in the depths of this thread.

The upshot is I'm alone in preferring that POP3 now works properly, everybody else prefers the old way.

There is a setting in webmail that allows the trash folder to be emptied on logout. It is a tick box so you can chose. I know it retains the contents for at least 7 days if left unchecked as thats as long as I have tried.

Yes I've seen that, but I actually want it to retain the Trash. At the moment the deleted/downloaded mail doesn't even appear in Trash.

@Rob364  However, that option isn't available in BTYahoo which is the system that moves downloaded mail to trash.

Nor should it, that is the whole point of POP3, download to client and delete from server.

Previously emails would appear in Trash on the server.

Yes, I know, much to my annoyance. If I want mails left on the server I will ask for them to be left on the server, not have it forced on me.

I'm sure you're correct but if there is a change in the underlying functionality users should be told in advance what to expect and how to engineer a solution that works for them. Personally I don't care much what they do with the web interface, I rarely use it, but I need to know how any changes affect my mail clients on Windows & Android.
