Help needed Outlook settings needed - keeping a wanadoo email address

Go to solution

I have spoke to BT 3 times!!!!

First 2 times I was promised a call back - didn`t come.

Finally today I spoke to a Extremely helpful Bt advisor in India (being sarcastic!!!!!) and was told that she doesnt work for Orange she works for BT so won`t help me!!!!!

Cracking customer service (alarm bells ringing now. Wish I had sayed with Orange now!!!!)

Anyway,more to the point.

I have a wanadoo email account. Set up on my laptop as Outlook.

I looked at the Orange website and it looked quite simple.

Simply change the outgoing server to "mail.btinternet.com".

However, when I do this I get a pop up box asking for Network password.

In the box is

Server - mail.btinternet.com

Username - nuek,wanadoo.co.uk

Password - my password

Not sure where to go from here.

I called orange who told me that all the "orange" settings were correct and to contact BT for the Outgoing mail server details.

I will probably have a breakdown if I have to speak to the most unfriendly/unhelpful call centre staff again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ps I was told that my fibre optic need to "bed in" for 7-10 days.

I am getting between 6-12mb and was told I would get 64mb so it got a lot of "bedding in" to do!!!

Have I beed told a load of..... or is this correct.

Thanks

Paul Malcolm

Hi. Welcome to the forums.

Receiving emails from your Orange account is straightforward, however sending is not. You need to go through something called address verification. You should have a btinternet.com email address.

Simply changing the outgoing server will not do as you are trying to login to it with a wrong name!

See my shortcuts, link below, option 0e for the details you should have to go through. Notwithstanding that your Orange account may well cease in due course, or be unavailable via Outlook (but might remain accessible via webmail).

If you are on fibre optic broadband (do you have an infinity modem and hub 3 ?), then 6-12MB/s does seem very low.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the quick reply.

It was Outlook that I was wanting to work 😞

I have added my wanadoo account on the btyahoo page.
I am now able to send emails in my wanadoo account. They go to my outlook ok.

But i`m still unable to send from outlook.

I have a Samsung galaxy s3 and i`m not receiving emails to the phone now either 😞

I thought it would be an easy as changing mobile providers and keeping the same number 😞

Yes its Btinfinity.

I did a line test before taking it out and was told 64mb download and 20 mb upload.

Hi again.

Do you get any error messages when trying to send via Outlook ? If you've managed to add your orange account to your btinternet address (by address verification), then the Outlook settings need to reflect this - and have your btinternet email address specified. The only area needed to have the orange account is the "From" box, everything else needs to be the btinternet address.

Again see my shortcuts, option 0e, though not specific to outlook, it may help pinpoint an area that needs altering.

Just had a friend send me his settings.

He has the same setup ie Orange pop settings and mail.btinternet.com for outgoing settings.

He is using Outlook and his works......

Seems strange

Re: Help needed Outlook settings needed - keeping a wanadoo email address

After many hours of trying, I have cracked it!!!!!

On my phone as well!!!!

In the advanced settings.

The username is the first part of the btinternet email (before the @)

The password is the bt password and not the orange one.

Sorted!!!!!!!

And for info -  I was told off Orange that as its a wanadoo (webbased) email it will not be "cut off".

I was advised to open up through webmail every 2-3 months "just in case" as this would keep the email active (orange email accounts would need to do this.

Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue as I did.
