Help with slow speeds please

Hi,  I'm a new BT customer & have waited over the 10 day "settling in"time & am finding my broadband speed to be very slow.  I've run the speed test & got the following result

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

 Download  Speed
 0.32 Mbps

0 Mbps0.5 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.32 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.5 Mbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :0.8 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.5 Mbps

As a  comparison, I've looked back at the stats that I got with my old provider on the same test site & using the same equipment & found a download speed of 1134Kbps, with a stated acceptable range of 400 - 2000Kbps.  DSL connection rate 1632Kbps (Download) & 448Kbps (Upload) and an IP line profile of 1250 Kbps.

I am connected directly into the master socket & am using a wired connection.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Help with slow speeds please

I'm not currently using the Home Hub but these are the figures from my D-Link router.  Hope this is OK but if not, I'll unpack the Home Hub.

Re: Help with slow speeds please

There is not enough information from the D-Link router to diagnose the problem.

Could you try the home hub please?

You should be connecting at about 1952Kbs.

Re: Help with slow speeds please

hi you have a higher than normal noise margin the normal default is 6dB this will be limiting your connection speed unfortunately you stats do not show any connection time also have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the removable lower panel of the master socket

Re: Help with slow speeds please

Thanks for the quick replies.  John, Yes, I've tried the test socket with no real difference.  Keith, I'll connect using the home hub & then let it settle down & post the stats again tomorrow.

Re: Help with slow speeds please

with your current attenuation and noise margin already at 4.4db I can'tsee you get much better than you have - about 1mb

Re: Help with slow speeds please

hi those stats look much better your noise margin has improved and your connection speed is slightly better
it is also reporting you are on a much longer line the the dlink was this often the case as some hubs have a problem reporting attenuation figures on long lines
