Hign noise margin slow speed

Hi - After many years of stable connection at 7.5MBs I've recently been stuck on very much slower speeds.  I have reconnected to check if that makes any difference and rebooted the router but that hasn't changed anything.  I see no changes in speed from when the router reconnects so it appears that it isn't negotiating higher speeds as I would expect it to.  I live about 200m from the exchange so I'm used to a good and very stable connection.  The router stats are as shown below, as you can see I have a very high noise margin, the margin remains constant within 1dB either side of 17dB for days.

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

once you have posted the information asked for then the community members can help you more

Thanks for the rapid response.

 

I have the old style faceplate and the quiet line test was just that, quiet, absolutely no noise.  As yo can see from the speed test there is a mismatch between the max achievable speed and the IP profile for the line.

as your connection has been stable for 8 day
I suggest you contact the forum mods they should be able to reset your noise margin for you this is a link to them http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951


They normally reply by email or phone directly to you within 3 working days they will take personal ownership of your problem until resolved and will keep you informed of progress


They are a UK based BT specialist team who have a good record at getting problems solved
