Re: Home Hub 5 VPN Issues Following Firmware Updates

Go to solution
Hi licquorice
Thanks for your response.
BT did say they don't know which would be sent out
BT or myself not knowing which will be delivered to me doesn't help my situation. It is difficult to believe that a note can't be put on some system somewhere requesting that the bod that despatches them to check it's a type B please.
I was wondering while I had to resort to using my phone hotspot to connect to my work VPN today if whether a connection via 2.4 or 5 GHz wifi makes a difference to people that have experienced these issues - anyone able to advise?

I know you shouldn't have to, but the easiest answer is to buy your own third party router. Not only will it be far more configurable, it won't be afflicted by the incessant firmware updates that BT push out which tend to fix one thing whilst breaking another.

What is the recommendation please? Because I do agree it would be a lot easier and hopefully no further time wasted

There are many to choose from, just make sure it is a VDSL Modem/router. It really depends on your requirements in terms of LAN speed, wireless bands and ability to look at line stats etc. It ranges from the cheap and cheerful TP-Link TD-W9970 at about £35 up to over £200 for high end routers. The Netgear range are a good mid-range price.

Hello Neil,

I seem to be having the same issue. I've spoken to 3 different departments within BT but don't seem to be having much luck. Are you able to assist please?

Many thanks

I found that you have to turn off the Help in the Admin account set up, that worked for me
