You don't need the Hub 5, return it. As stated previously, the modem does nothing as far as wifi is concerned, no point in replacing it. If you move the Time Capsule upstairs, just connect the sky box directly to the Apple Extreme. No extra kit required, just juggling cables around.
I am trying to set up my Home Hub 5 to work with my Apple Time Capsule (2011).
Which ports do I plug the ethernet cables into?
On the Home Hub there are ethernet ports and also a Broadband WAN port.
On the Time Capsule there are ethernet ports and a port with a dotted circle.
I've tried all the combinations but nothing happens.
Do I also then need to chaneg any settings on my HH5?
I don`t think you can do that with the HH5, you would need a standalone Openreach VDSL modem.
No he was using an Openreach modem. There isn't a modem only option for the HH but it can be configured to act as a pseudo modem by turning off wireless and DHCP. Give the AE an address of 192.168.1.10 and connect one of its LAN ports to one of the HH's LAN ports. You will still be double natting, but as long as you are not trying to do any port forwarding, you should be ok.
When I plug it in and open Airport Utility there is nothing there - it states Internet disconnected.
What do i need to do?
Have you given the AE an address of 192.168.1.10 as per my earlier post?
