This will be my last post on this. I have been contacted by BT customer services and we discussed at length what had happened. Basically agreed that the whole process could have been better managed/communicated.

 

BT have offered a partial refund for failures in 'Customer Service' rather than incorrect charging. I will therefore leave it at that.
