Home hub network users

Hello

First of all, thanks to all contributors for making so much information available!  I wish I understood even half of it, but maybe one day....

Following a period of very slow connection speeds I checked my hub (BT version 2) and there were 8 devices using my home network, while I could only think of 7 devices in the house.  Looking at a shareware program that was recommended in a magazine, there was again an extra device connected. I could see the number for my router and also an "unknown" MAC number which was almost identical to the router id (just 1 digit different). That seems rather odd.  So the question is - should I just see this as one of life's mysteries, or is it a possible security issue?

Re: Home hub network users

If you are using the Homehub 2, do you have the hub phone connected to it? It may be the extra MAC address you are seeing.

Re: Home hub network users

The hub phones connect using DECT, and are not allocated any MAC addresses.

Please can you tell me the first six digits of the unknown MAC address?

That cannot be identified, it may need more digits. Can you tell me the full MAC address, its not secret?
