We are about (finally) to get BT Super Fibre service to our location, and am currently running basic BT B'band service.
I have received a new BT Smart Hub as part of the upgrade.
My main BT box is located in the hall of my property (open area immediately under the stairwell, and my main desktop PC is in a bedroom of the landing above.
The guidance is to have the Smart Hub close to the main BT point, but this could only be easily located there if left on a shelf - somewhat at risk from people passing in the hall.
My current set-up has my old hub on the desk in my study(bedroom) upstairs connected to an already existent BT phone socket in the study - and not using the BT main box at all. The PC is connected to this old hub directly by cable.
What are my best options to try and have good speeds and least disruption in locating the new kit?
Ideally I would prefer to have the new Hub in the upstairs study.
Advice would be gratefully received
Thanks
Lancsman
Just try it and see, ideally the hub should be located at the master socket for best speeds but it probably won't be much of a drop if you site the new hub at the same location as the old.
In most cases with correct wiring and relatively short distances involved, the difference in speed between the 2 sockets will be marginal and unnoticeable.
