If your account was hacked, the hackers will have stolen your contacts email addresses.
If the hacker is now sending emails to your contacts in a manner that purports to be from your hacked email account closing it will make no difference.
The emails are not being sent from your hacked account. The hackers will be spoofing your email address so that they appear to be from your email account to lull your contacts into thinking the emails are safe because they came from you.
The hackers can continue to do that even if you delete the account because the are not using the account and they already have your contacts list that they can use at anytime.
The best thing to do is to stop using it and warn your contacts to treat anything from that email address as spam and to delete it without opening it.
You can delete it in the email section of manage extras in MyBT. However, if you are hoping it will prevent the hackers sending mails purporting to come from you to your contacts, it won't. They will be spoofing your email address and they already have your contact list.

We are just customers like you. You can delete it yourself as I posted earlier, but it will have zero impact on anything.
Only the moderators are BT employees, everyone else is a customer just like yourself and so far no moderators have posted on this thread.
In the short term, I would change my email address and where possible advise my contacts to create a rule in their email client to automatically move any emails from the hacked account straight to the bin
