How can I find my cabinet number and when it will be enabled?

I live in a newbuild area of 'Basingstoke' which was one of the first BT exchanges to be FTTC enabled.

Since then, BT have completed an "in-fill" programme to enable some 'missed' cabinets. However I am still unable to get Fibre, and suffer from sub 1Mb ADSL speeds.

I am trying to find out where my cabinet is, and if there are plans to FTTC enable it - and if not, why not? 🙂 I know its a lot to ask, but I am so fed up with appaling speeds, and I am gobsmacked BT dont lay fibre into newbuilds !!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Re: How can I find my cabinet number and when it will be enabled?

There are hundreds of cabinets on the Basingstoke exchange.

Many have or are due FTTC and many have no indication of FTTC coming.

If you post your Post Code I can look to see if it's on my list and if so what it's cabinet number is.

Some examples below note {p112} is the pcp cabinet number for that post code.

BASINGSTOKE RG217PT {THBZ}{p112} 0 100 2.71 2 Yes FTTC

BASINGSTOKE RG217PU {THBZ}{p112} 0 90.56 2.71 2 Yes FTTC

BASINGSTOKE RG217PU {THBZ}{p144} 0 9.43 2.75

BASINGSTOKE RG217PW {THBZ}{p144} 0 100 2.75

BASINGSTOKE RG217PX {THBZ}{p112} 0 100 2.71 2 Yes FTTC

BASINGSTOKE RG217PY {THBZ}{p112} 0 100 2.71 2 Yes FTTC

BASINGSTOKE RG217PZ {THBZ}{p30} 0 100 3

BASINGSTOKE RG217QA {THBZ}{p181} 0 100 2.73

BASINGSTOKE RG217QE {THBZ}{p181} 0 37.5 2.73

BASINGSTOKE RG217QE {THBZ}{p58} 0 62.5 2.68

BASINGSTOKE RG217QG {THBZ}{p181} 0 2.5 2.73

BASINGSTOKE RG217QG {THBZ}{p55} 0 7.5 2.73

BASINGSTOKE RG217QG {THBZ}{p58} 0 90 2.68

BASINGSTOKE RG217QJ {THBZ}{p58} 0 100 2.68

BASINGSTOKE RG217QP {THBZ}{p14} 0 100 3.51

BASINGSTOKE RG217QQ {THBZ}{p142} 0 15 2.89

BASINGSTOKE RG217QQ {THBZ}{p55} 0 85 2.73

BASINGSTOKE RG217QT {THBZ}{p54} 0 77.77 3.19

BASINGSTOKE RG217QT {THBZ}{p58} 0 22.22 2.68

BASINGSTOKE RG217QU {THBZ}{p202} 0 12.5 2.39

BASINGSTOKE RG217QU {THBZ}{p54} 0 87.5 3.19

Hi Mark

STBISHW BISHOPS WALTHAM SO322TL {STBISHW}{p4} 0 100 7 6b Yes FTTC

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/STBISHW FTTC available in some areas.

http://www.openreach-communications.co.uk/superfast/where-and-when/

In the Accepting orders section of the Openreach where and when document it says.-

BISHOPS WALTHAM STLOCKH FTTC Hampshire County Now..... but that is a different exchange,-

STLOCKH = Locks Heath Exchange

All I can confirm is your right that cabinet number is {p4} and it is going to get upgraded.

The indication of when is in phase 6b. Phase five is being done now... I was completed in July and other phase 5 are due 30th September.

So Phase 6 is probably after that.... be interesting what the BT wholesale checker shows https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

And start looking for a big brother next to your cabinet 4 to appear and start humming an indication it won't be long.

Just to say I downloaded my document a  few months ago, shortly before Openreach blocked it.

So I might be a bit out of date.... and dates do change.

When I had problems after changing over to BT adsl in Sept 2010 I was assured my line was being upgraded to fibre which would cure my problem and the BT engineer confirmed on his system that it would by by March 2011 but probably before..... eventually after quite a few changes on the checker, even withing one week of the due live date when it was put back to Sept 30th.

Then a couple of days later on the 1 July it was available/live.

So things can and do change.....

Re: How can I find my cabinet number and when it will be enabled?

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/MRSTE

MRSTE STEPPING HILL SK2 7LT {MRSTE}{p24} 0 72.97 2.55 5a Yes FTTC

MRSTE STEPPING HILL SK2 7LT {MRSTE}{p30} 0 27.02 3.09 5a Yes FTTC

That post code is served by two pcp green cabinets 24 and 30.

http://www.openreach-communications.co.uk/superfast/where-and-when/ Updated monthly.

In the accepting orders now is.-

STEPPING HILL MRSTO FTTC Stockport District (B) Now

But that shows as the Stockport exchange in Samknows

Anyhow by the look of it assuming my document isn't too out of date.... your cabinets are in phase 5 which I believe is in the process of being done around now... dates do change etc.

So keep a look out for any signs of a bigger cabinet.... with cooling vents which if it powered up you can hear the cooling fans running which is a good indication that it won't be long.

Openreach have to have a minimum of arounds 10 fibre cabinets working before they can release the exchange as ready to start selling.

Edit My checker gives.- estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 26.6Mbps

Over wireless "n" I get (varies but average is 35Mbs).-

I'm on Infinity Option 1 so the upload is capped.

And this may happen in the not to distant future http://online-broadband-guide.co.uk/bt-set-to-double-their-infinity-broadband-speeds-in-2012/00494

Re: How can I find my cabinet number and when it will be enabled?

The not too distant future is next year. Doesn't really help those who can't get Infinity and I would think would need a new contract (with increased cost) for those on Infinity who wished it.

Many thanks PC.

Found out today we should be enabled in a few weeks. New cabinets have been there for a couple of months.
