How can I record a personal message on BT Answer 1571?

We've inherited a new BT handset and discovered that we don't have a personal message recorded on BT Answer 1571. Online advice says that you can do this by keying 1571 and pressing 2 from the menu, but I'm not getting a menu: just 'You have no new messages: goodbye.' Any suggestions please how I can record a personal message - I'm assuming this is a problem with BT Answer rather than the new handset?

Hi @Gill3

I don’t use it but have you tried pressing 2 (tone) immediately. Also leave a message, perhaps from your mobile

How do I record a personal greeting on my line?

  1. Dial 1571 from your home phone
  2. Press '2' from the main menu to set a personal greeting
  3. Then press '1' to record a personal greeting or 2 to choose the standard greeting
  4. After pressing '1', you'll be able to record a greeting after the tone. Press square (#) to finish
  5. You'll be able to listen to what you've recorded before deciding whether to use it, or to record another version. To cancel recording and return to the greeting menu, press star (*)'

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly the five steps don't work as there's no menu; I did try pressing 2 immediately, but nothing happened. I've been doing a bit more digging around, and it looks as though I have to pay for BT Call Minder to have a personal greeting.
