I use BT Mail on certain occasions but mainly use Mac Mail because I am using a iMac and because I can view all my emails to all my addresses at once which I cannot do in BT Mail (I have to log in each time to a different login email account). My question is I am getting spam from an address that I have blocked in BT Mail successfully but still gets through to my Mac Mail account albeit to the spam folder. I want to stop them completely as they are grossly inappropriate. I have applied Mac Mail rules which don't seem to have any effect. As all my email addresses are BT Internet accounts is this something BT can help me with. I have already requested help in an Apple forum and they suggest I should report this to BT to get it stopped as BT is my provider. Is this correct? Can anyone help?

Hi.
Does the BTMail filter delete the emails, or simply move them to the spam/bulk folder - accessible using IMAP or webmail.?
As you've set this filter in BTMail, it's disingenous of the Apple forum replies to say it's a BT issue.
Can you revisit the MacMail rule and perhaps add some extra features to the rule to say "and Delete" or similar? Does the rule say to move the Spam folder? If so, can you change it to say move to the Trash folder (or whatever it's called).

These emails always are immediately routed to my IMAP spam folder. Then I have applied a rule to STOP AND DELETE on arrival for all from this address. But with no success.

I do not agree. I have been discussing this issue some time now and they have advised me to take all precautions with regard to Mac Mail rules and any other Apple issues that might be applicable. They are not passing the buck only trying to help as BT is my provider. If in the process of solving this matter I am wrong then I accede.

The rule says as mentioned above "STOP AND DELETE". Which is unambiguous.
This is something I have done many times in the past and it has worked. This time I am baffled! Is there not something on BT that I can register an inapropriate spam email address, get it verified and then blocked?
Have you checked the headers of the spam email to check that the email address that you see is the actual email address that is sending them.
Spam email is usually sent from "spoofed" email addresses. That is, the email address is made to look like a known/genuine email address so that it fools the receiver into believing it is a genuine email.
If that is the case you will find that blocking the email addresses that you see in the "from" address box will have no effect on it because it is not coming from that address hence the reason that spammers use spoofed addresses.
See link about spoofing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_spoofing
Eventually spam filters catch up and block them but the spammers just move onto a new spoofed address and continue to sent them.
If you are putting a rule in place you should try using something from the title or content of the email which may be able to block it.

Ah, sorry - I thought your initial post implied that the BTMail filter worked. Which means my other stuff was irrelevant.

I don't believe on an ISP level it's correct to block a specific email address, since that address could well have been used by the spammer in order to cause the "correct owner" of the email address problems. I have seen other ISPs actually block whole domains, in one case a double named ISP blocked cisco completely due to a spammer "joe-jobbing" that company.
Sorry can't help any further with filters I'm afraid, maybe someone else reading has a similar setup and can offer some help.
