Qiote:
Although this will prevent casual intrusion, the MAC Address unfortunately is transmitted with every packet so it is not any deterrent to a "script kiddie" or attacker determined to compromise your network.

Episode #11 should explain the basics.

I completly agree but it does put up another wall for those would be casual hackers that are just after free wifi for 20 mins πŸ˜„

There isnt much that would prevent a determind hacker from getting into your router. short of going over board with hidden SSID, really really long WPA2, MAC filterring and MAC spoofing (okay for home network) your prety much left with stickly IPs / Statick IPs and radius servers and server software for just this task. not sure the average user would want this much security for their home network πŸ˜„

omg paranoia over load!!!

It you use the reccomended settings, ie password, you will be fine.

There arent people scouring the streets trying to hack into wireless, even if they are, the only way to stop a determind hacker is to switch off wireless altogether.

Why use a long & complex password/passphrase.

The same could be said about the reg. number of your car, or the risk of your home being burgled and your bank info being pinched.

Its paranoia overload all this talk of people hacking your accounts and blah blah.

If you have a password that only you know on your wireless, and a fire wall, virus checker on your computer, your gonna be fine.

@ Paigntonian

It's OK you can use your Car Registration Number as your WPA-PSK phrase.

I wouldn't recommend that you do so though.  Smiley Tongue

I wonder also how can I stop BT FON and Openzone using my Infinity connection. Seems to be part of the install, though I wasn't told.

Hi there,

Have a look at this thread regarding disabling BT Fon on the Home Hub.

I hope this info helps. πŸ™‚
