I’ve had my house re-wired and I need to connect my telephone line which has 4 white cables and on orange to my Cat6 cable which colours fo to which.? Thanks
Are you a current BT broadband customer?
4 white cables and on (I assume you mean one) orange?
Never come across any telecoms cabling that has four White and one Orange.
I’m guessing it’s either a 0.5/5 Cable, which should be;
Pair 1 Blue/White
Pair 2 Orange/White
Pair 3 Green/White
Pair 4 Brown/White
Pair 5 Slate/White
but the B Leg for pairs 1, 3, 4 and 5 have been cut back.
Or what I suspect you’re actually looking at is a Drop Wire 11 or 11G which is a one pair cable, that being Orange/White and the other 3 Whites you’re seeing are actually the Steel Supports to keep it tensioned where it goes overhead between the pole and your house.
Who do you pay your line rental to?
The cable coming in belongs to Openreach, and you should not interfere with it.
If its a new installation, then your Service Provider needs to ask Openreach to fix any wiring issues up to the master socket. This should be free of charge.
Anything after the master socket is your responsibility.
As said I’ve never heard of such a Cable and have worked in Communications for almost 20 years.
A picture of this Cable would helpful.
I was planning on asking Openreach to come out and do the connections but thought as I was doing a few bits I would try myself.
Can’t upload a photo as the image is to many MB
Is it a black cable that comes in from a pole outside?
