Re: How to disable BT-wifi and BT-wifi-with-fon

this is not fully correct.

See response from BT:

====================================

REF# VOL012-***********

With regards to the email, it would take 28 days for the BT FON to show as ‘turned off’ from the time it was opted out. But I would also like to mention that no one else can access your BT FON service the moment you have opted out from it. Hope this helps.

If you require further assistance, please reply us back.

Thank you for contacting us.

Has anyone figured out how to switch off the HomeHub 3 WiFi?

It is blasting at 2.4GHz disturbing some measurement equipment here and I cannot get it switched off.

Is there a digram somewhere how to opne it up and remove the antenna?

(P.S> Switching it "off" via admin login only disables your own named access point . The HomeHub 3 will continue to blast away for BT WiFi and BT FON without your permission, so I am looking for a way to disable WiFi on this unit)

As you say, BT FON will broadcast according to TR69 messages and the opt out setting on the web. Unfortunately the two don't always communicate and 2.4 Ghz FON is often left enabled, irrespective of the wifi on/off setting on the Hub itself and on on/off setting on the FON website.

On the HH4 it's worse, it's impossible to disable 5 Ghz FON.

The only solution it seems is to use a different router.

Re: How to disable BT-wifi and BT-wifi-with-fon

It took a hour on a call to a foreign BT call centre to ask for this 'light switch' to be turned off.  If you have a BT business hub then you can do it from the web interface as I have with my client, but with home users BT are relying on the assumption of dumbing down their home users and removing that control.

Don't mentionit causing problems with iPads/iPhones/Adroid as you will immediately be emailed help documents regarding 3rd party devices and BT WIFI (or FON) as it was known.

So eventually I got this service turned off (which conveniently now provides me with a button in the web interface to activate it again) however my problem is with how it manages to prioritise itself over my BT Infinity connection.

My machines are all mostly ethernet wired but in order to use Airdrop or other Wifi only technologies like Airplay, I have to switch it on.  And, surprise, the default network is BT wifi - see here.  I've done everything I can to stop this happening but as it doesn't have a password for access, I can't block it.  Also, it doesn't work anyway.  When it drops onto this network I get a can't find network anyway.

This service is absolute **bleep**.  I've turned mine off (for no other reason than to default to my own network) but clearly I have a neighbour with it on.

BT had better resolve this issue quickly because I am losing patience quickly.  If anyone knows of an OS X utility to control Wifi more than the OS allows (currently Mavericks) then please let me know.

A very simple answer all you need to do is tell each device to forget BT wifi / fon and the problem is then easily resolve one thing is certain BT will not be stopping a service that a large number of people use and find useful

Doesn't work.  Been there, done that and bought the t-shirt.

We have tried the basics before posting.

So your device is connecting to a network without your permission? That sounds like an issue in itself.

I dont blame you wanting to opt out. A neighbourhood scan shows me 5 wireless connections [including mine] 2 have BT Wi-F- one with fon. Both are Unsecured --classed as open and I bet they dont know it. I only have a landline phone but it would be easy for someone else to connect to them. And for the record they are all on the same channel again apart from me. Only 1 is a non-BT HH -Edimax -that is secured but isnt Wi-Fi.

Without valid login details, all they would see is the BTWiFi welcome screen, asking for payment or login details. They are not going to get very far otherwise.
