I know what you mean about squeezing as much as you can get out of ADSL connections, luckily I'm past that!
Well my Home Hub 5 (when i connected it for testing puporses) reported

|7. Maximum data rate:||12116 / 60377|
If there any reason to think the modem i bought could be at fault then?

What's the SNR, line attenuation, etc???
