IP Profile Set Very Low

Go to solution

For the past two months my internet speed has been crippled because the IP profile has been set to a fraction of what it should be. Even though my line is capable of much higher speeds, once again the speed we are getting is far less than what we are paying for.

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

 Download  Speed
 0.23 Mbps

0 Mbps0.25 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.23 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.25 Mbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :1.82 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.25 Mbps

ADSL Line Status
Connection Information
Line state:Connected
Connection time:0 days, 01:35:55
Downstream:1.781 Mbps
Upstream:448 Kbps

ADSL Settings
VPI/VCI:0/38
Type:PPPoA
Modulation:G.992.1 Annex A
Latency type:Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up):18.5 dB / 19.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up):54.7 dB / 31.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up):18.6 dBm / 11.9 dBm
FEC Events (Down/Up):124 / 3
CRC Events (Down/Up):13 / 5

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote):0 / 0
HEC Events (Down/Up):15 / 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote):1707 / 125

I've done the quiet line test, and there wasn't any noise or clicking sounds.

I am not currently connected to the master socket, which is on a different floor to our study, but I did have the router connected there for a night to see if there would be any speed improvement.

As you can see, I've only been getting 12.6% of the speed we've been paying for over the last two months, with the exception of a few days last week. From Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th the IP profile was set to the correct level and we were getting our proper internet speed, but since then it's gone back to being slow.

I have already called the BT customer service four times over the course of the last month, and that is the only improvement that has occurred. This is the third time this has happened since we joined BT just over a year ago, and it is ridiculous how often I've had to go through this exact same procedure to get this sorted out.

There's nothing wrong with our line, our socket or our router. The IP profile is too low. Please reset it, and ensure this doesn't happen again less than four months from now.

Re: IP Profile Set Very Low

hi you need to maintain a stable connection for 5days and your IP Profile will rise automatically your profile has dropped because of a unstable connection unless you can maintain a stable connection your profile will drop again

your noise margin is also high which is reducing your connection speed this also show the same cause an unstable line you should have a connection speed of around 3.9mb

Here is a basic guide to getting help from the community members done by CL Keith Please read through the link posted http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/speed/first_steps.html

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

once you have posted the information asked for then the community members can help you more

Thank You

Re: IP Profile Set Very Low

You must leave your home hub turned on and connected to your phone line for at least five days.

During that time, do not reset or disconnect it.

If your download speed has not increased after that time, then return to this thread for assistance.

If you do a speed test, then do not restart the home hub, even though it tels you to, as this will reduce your speed even more.

You have a margin of 18.5dB, so there is plenty of room for improvement if you leave things alone.

Re: IP Profile Set Very Low

Excellent Smiley Happy

Most issues will fix themselves provided people leave things connected and do not restart things.

One of the major problems is the BT Speedtester page, which tells people to restart their home hub before doing a speed test.

This action is counter productive, and repeated speed tests, following thos instructions, will make your speed even slower.

Re: IP Profile Set Very Low

as before you need to maintain 5 days stable connection it is not an IP Profile problem it is an increased noise margin caused by multiple disconnections of the hub

Profile used to be 2000 now it's stuck at 500. Connection holds for 24/7 There appears to be more than enough Margin to try a higher sync. OK so maybe I was a bit slow replacing the micro filter. But we're approaching 4 weeks of, what looks to me like, a very stable connection. So much for the "speed should improve after 5 days of stability."

Re: IP Profile Set Very Low

From looking at the stats which I found difficult to follow but it looks like due to your previous disconnection problems you are currently in banded profile and it takes 3/5 days stable connection for banding to start to release. http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/broadband_terminology.shtml
