Incredibly poor upload speed

Go to solution

Hey, I've noticed recently that I believe the package I'm on (max 8 mb/s, please correct if wrong) allows me to go up to 448 kb/s, but this is not the case. My download speed is 5 mb/s which is pretty good for my area (Aldbury, HP23 5RZ). But my upload speed . . . Most people get around 600 kb/s but me, I'm stuck on 228 kb/s which divided by 8 to get kilobytes/s . . . I don't want to say. Since I'm constantly uploading videos to youtube I just wanted to know is there ANY way to get better upload speed, since my download is good for my area.

Those upload/download speeds on there are a bit off from what I'm really getting. Download is 5 mb/s upload 228 kb/s. Is there any way to improve if it. Even if it means paying more?

Your up noise margin is strangely high compared to other stats I've seen, but I'm just a newbie, the CLs will likely have some proper ideas. You might also want to check out and post your results from the BT speedtester

What about the Flash one (wholesale)? You have to do the 'Further Diagnostics' there after the base test, from what I could tell that gave the same information.

Further diagnostics = 'This test currently cannot be performed for your line, please try again later, or if this problem persists, contact bt' or something :L

Does the basic one run there? If it does, what speeds do you get with it?

Should I remove the bell wire in all phone sockets in my house, I heard thats what you do to lower noise on the line.

Ouch. I wonder if ther's another way to check out your ip profile. You've had some problems recently if I remember right, did the downstream speed increase gradually or suddenly? It might be that it'll still be a few days before your line settles properly.

You can always try that, I'm no expert on that though, there's none in the house 😄
