Infinity 1 and slow speeds during the evening and weekends

Go to solution

Was installed Tues 4th June.

Predicted speed was 21.5 down and 5.0up, when installed it was actually 28.0 so pleased with that.

I.P profile 25.

Speed is absolutely fine during the day - 24 down, but every evening it plummets to between 1-3 mb. This can be anytime from 7.00pm - midnight and can last 30 minutes or sometimes 4hrs.

I've ran hundreds of speed tests and from several sites. They all show the same results on both laptops wired and wireless.

I had a call from the network fault specialist team on Wed and was told they needed proof (I have already sent numerous attachments via online chat) so the next time it happens to report it again.

So tonight I contacted online chat again (cos my fault is due to be closed tomorrow) he then transferred my call to the escalation department. He ran loads of checks and diagnostics but couldn't find any fault. He said the only thing they could do was to get an engineer out, but he agreed with me that the engineer wouldn't see the fault either as it only happens during the evening.

I eventually agreed to the engineer visit being as there is nothing else I could do, but then he couldn't book one. It said on his system that being as the diagnostic tests didnt show a fault no engineer is required.

He said my only option now is to pay for a local technician, which I refuse to do or to ring 0800 800 150 option 2 the cancellation department.

Runs perfectly during the day but terrible in the evening, what else can I do?

home hub 3 and ecl modem have both been reset, makes no difference, other than slightly lowering my i.p profile!

Do I need to do that whilst it's slow in the evening cos it's ok at the moment?

You need to post when it is slow as well so we can compare the tracert's and see where it is picking up the delay. It would also be useful if you could tell us roughly where you are in the country as well.

My intial thoughts are that it is a throughput issue that you are getting in the evenings - we used to get it when we were on standard ADSL but never see it now we are on Infinity. The reason you shouldn't see it is that if they have sized the "back-haul" correctly between the FTTC cabinet and the BRAS then the link between the BRAS and the 21CN network - where you actually hit the UK Internet backbone for BT - is sized correctly. The only thing that I could see would have an impact is whether the FTTC cabinet that you are connected too is overloaded.

My speed has started to nose dive early today.

This was from a few minutes ago when it dropped to 5mb

tango2 - it is looking like a "back-haul" issue and loading related from what you have posted above. BT Wholesale should be able to fix this.

The 109.159.2....before the "ealing.ukcore" address is a 21CN node but you can't see the reverse DNS for it. Most of the addresses in the tracert are private BT GRoup ones which you will not get reverse DNS names for. If there weren't issues then I would expect RTD to "ealing.ukcore" to be about 26/28 ms. The next hop from "ealing.ukcore" to "telehouse" I would expect to add much as it is in the Docklands (London). If there is a lot going on at the BBC then the 194.74.65.42 and the "Cable and Wireless - now Vodafone" access to the BBC does gain quite a lot of delay.

Hope this helps

If you have tried the normal path 08001114567 and fought the help desk in India and not got anywhere then I would contact the moderators for this forum. They are quite busy and tend to take 3 or 4 days to get back to you but they do seem to get things fixed. They are basically "problem managers" with access to all parts of BT.
