Re: Infinity Availability Dates - Aberdeen West - Craigiieburn Park Area AB15 7SG

Hi Tonkaman,

The Openreach Superfast Commercial Fibre Broadband Scheme and your local BDUK fibre broadband programme is being rolled out, done and managed by Openreach (& your local authority in terms of BDUK programme) so BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP whom operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP or equivalent) as that is up-to Openreach/and your local authority.

Your exchange (Aberdeen West) is Fibre (FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet) enabled.

However the properties in that postcode area seem to be on EO (Exchange Only) lines.

Properties who are connected by EO (Exchange Only) lines means that fibre broadband such as BT Infinity isn't currently available to you.

There are different stages to the development of the fibre infrastructure in the UK.

Customers with EO Lines currently will not be able to have fibre broadband as your line isn't connected to a cabinet, unless your area is FTTP enabled. In these instances Openreach plan to connect some areas that have EO lines with either FTTP or other fibre technologies in the future.

There have been some cases where Openreach have installed cabinets outside of the exchange to enable EO lines to have FTTC fibre broadband.

Looking at the Digital Scotland BDUK programme, you seem to be within the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband intervention area.

http://www.digitalscotland.org/superfast-broadband/results-for-your-area?postcode=AB15%207SG

The Digital Scotland website is: http://www.digitalscotland.org/faqs/

You can try emailing Digital Scotland via info@digitalscotland.org with your landline number, address and exchange to see if they have any more information regarding whether you are/will be in a NGA area or to see if your property will be in scope of the  Digital Scotland BDUK scheme. It may take a week or so to get a reply.

Please pop back if you need any more help and to let us know how things go.

Cheers

Re: Infinity Availability Dates - Aberdeen West - Craigiieburn Park Area AB15 7SG

Many thanks for the information, much appreciated. It seems a crazy crazy way to "roll out" broadband, especially when there was at one time fibre in the properties in the above postcode. A person just down the road has Infinity, and development where several hundred people live just up the road in a city do not. Crazy.

Still no proper response other than the stock answer - "give us yet more public cash and we will put it in for you" . Shame on BT and the Government

Re: Infinity Availability Dates - Aberdeen West - Craigiieburn Park Area AB15 7SG

BT's strategy is to install fibre to the cabinet for the majority of the population. There is also fibre to the premises available for a smaller number of customers. However, where fibre to the cabinet is the norm, those people who are not connected to a cabinet are being left out of the initial installation phase. Also left out are people connected to cabinets that are too difficult or too expensive to enable. I think later phases will be to enable those people left out initially.

Re: Infinity Availability Dates - Aberdeen West - Craigiieburn Park Area AB15 7SG

The rollout planning is not logical or based on demand. What is the logic here? Larger urban areas with EO not connected. Remote areas with relatively few areas connected. Its bonkers, where is the logic.

Re: Infinity Availability Dates - Aberdeen West - Craigiieburn Park Area AB15 7SG

I spoke to some of the workers at the Exchange who are installing the DSLAMs. They are to connect EO lines. The cabinets are equipped have electricity and the EO lines are being moved across. So I expect these new cabinets at Aberdeen West will spring into action quite soon....

If so, thank you BT.
