Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

Hi All,

I am getting slower than expected infinity2 speeds on my line. I did recently fix an internal cabling issue that i believe was dragging it down but it does not seem to want to go up despite fixing it.

I have a Draytek Vigor 130 connected to my own router but the line specs are as follows from the Draytek:-

First - the stats prior to the cabling issue:-

And after it was fixed, the DS Attainable Rate has went up quite a bit:-

It seems to want to sit at bang on 44000000 bps for downstream which to me seems to feel quite low and like some sort of imposed limit.

Is there anything i can do here?

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

the fix in cabling has obviously improved your connection in that your attainable is now 71mb and previously 52mb.  however all the problems with your conenction probably dropping and the resets when you were fixing the cabling has resulted in you ending up in a banded profile  this should release automatically but needs a stable connection and could take weeks rather than days

your current stats don't show internet conenction time

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

Thanks Reverend, have you fixed that pilot light yet?

Although i have a confession to make, i work in networks and am always tampering with kit and my connection probably goes down more than most as i flip things, reconfigure stuff etc.

Does that affect it? Would myself powering it up / down and/or bringing the PPPOE connection up / down affect the line speed or is it based more on line counters like noise / attenuation etc.

Finally, is there any way the process of a resyncing the speed can be sped up? Or do i need to keep my modem up and on and running constanly for a few weeks?

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

all your tinkering with the connection and the powering off/on and just resetting modem are seen as line problems with DLM and that has resulted in the banded profile  https://community.plus.net/t5/Library/FTTC-DLM-What-it-is-How-it-works/ba-p/1322799

you now need stable connection 24/7 - no resets - for DLM to relent and remove banding

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

Hi,

Futher to this - i've just noticed that the DS Actual rate has shot up overnight to 60mbps...

However, i still get only 40mbps when downloading, which is basically the same as yesterday - and thats testing directly from my router, although PC's give the same result.

Should i now be getting closer to 60mbps here?

Also, i notice that G.INP isnt enabled at the far end...

(ReTxEnable set to 0 indicated that) - is that normal?

Thanks also for taking the time to answer above.

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

you can try running btspeedtester and the diagnostic test and post results but this has given some odd results and is a known problem  you can also try speedtest.net and see what download speed you can get now conenction speed increased to 60mb

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

as I said btspeedtester gives odd results - your upload speed is faster than your conenction speed!!!

are you connected directly with ethernet cable from router to your pc - no powerline adapters

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

Hi,

If you look above you'll see that one set of stats i gave were ran directly from the router itself, which is only connected to the modem via an ethernet cable.

I have however now powered off the Draytek - left it for 30min and then powered it back on again.

Running the same test again i get:-

[2.4.3-RELEASE][admin@pfsense.xxxxxxx]/root: speedtest-cli
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from BT (xxxxxx)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...

Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 54.87 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 18.38 Mbit/s

Which seems much better. I just hope DLM doesnt punish me tonight for a poweroff then poweron half an hour later.

I'll keep an eye on th espeeds over the next few days.

Re: Infinity Speed seems to be quite low

These figures look a lot better

if DLM was going to take any action it would have happened when you re-connected so as long as stable will be fine
