Wondering if you help. I've been charged £130 to install a phone line in my new rented flat. The thing is, i knew the person who used to live in the flat and they had broadband, and when i moved in there there appeared to alrerady be a box! (see below) Am i being done here? How do i contact them to let them know?
You are paying for the provision of the connection from the exchange to that box. The fact that there is a box in your house, does not mean its connected anywhere else.
When the last people moved out, their line would have been disconnected, and re-used for another customer.
I would keep a watch on that damp on the window, as its likely to get into that box. If it damages it and caused a fault, you will be charged another £130 to replace it.
I can see one of the screws already has mould on it.
