Installation tomorrow - couple of questions !

Go to solution

BT are due to install tomorrow 🙂

So I have a couple of questions.

I know I will have the HomeHub 3b and a router, will both have an IP Address ?

Can I change them to suit my network ?

Can the WPA key be changed to suit my network ?

Do you set the HomeHub as the default gateway on the PC or the router ?

Does port forwarding work OK on the HomeHub3 ?

Thanks 🙂

the homehub3 is a router
the white openreach box is a modem
the homehub3 will get the wan ip address and its lan ip address is the default gateway
you can change the lan ip address
you can change the wpa key
port forwarding works
the modem is locked and inaccessible to you

Thanks..

So for all intents ignore the modem, it's the HomeHub that I can access.

Will the modem be preconfigured, or do I need to provide them any details. ?

The modem will be preconfigured. Unless you want to get very techie, ignore it as you say.

You should already have the HomeHub through the post or courier. The installer will bring the modem. If you want to be really prepared you can connect to the HomeHub already (with no internet access) and set up wpa keys etc. Also test out best position, wireless coverage and channels, etc.  You can set up port forwarding too, but can't test it till the modem arrives.

I've thought of another question 🙂
Does rebooting the HomeHub affect the connection ?
Just thinking about changing addresses etc will probably need a reboot !

no you cant use qos
no rebooting doesnt affect the dlm but it may implement a change that dlm has scheduled and you get a new ip address

Thanks

So am I better to configure it tonight before BT turn up ?

What's the default IP Address on the Home Hub ?

Will the openreach engineer get 'upset' if I've pre configured the hub ?
