Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

Yes, BT Yahoo are working on it, it is affecting many people...

I also get the same error as you: ERR [SYS/TEMP] internal server error (#OCF013). For me, this issue has been going on for 2 weeks. Up to 3 days ago, the error was usually: ERR [SYS/TEMP] internal server error (#6532). Now it is OCF013.

Let's hope it is fixed soon.

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

Hi Guys/Girls

I too had OCF013 fault (previously it was 6532) and did what is stated here.

Change account settings of "mail.btinternet.com to;

Incoming =pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk

Outgoing = smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

It works! Eureka!

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

I have been getting this for some time and BT insists the problem is not mine but with Mozilla Thunderbird. Now I find this forum chat and the problem is as I said a BT POP server problem. Back in about 1996ish BT had to ask POIPEX for some help - pity PIPEX as such is not around now then!

Others note - if after a failure you log on to BTYahoo web mail using the same password etc as you use for client mail it works fine. And then, when  yiou go back to client mail THAT now works fine too!

PLUS, it seems to happen most on Friday mo0rning - indeed possibly ONLY on Friday mornings. Like I said to BT, so what update do you do at 3a.m. on Friday morning in which someone fails to clear the revision list? Hmmm?

Oh yes and this is a new problem from the last couple of months after three astonishing years of no glitches, no drop outs and steady if unezciting (rural) broadband. Hey ho!

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

I'm using Outlook 2010 (Windows 7). This has also been happening to me for the last two months or so.

Tried the solution proposed - and got rejected several times over. Am I alone in thinking that this all began when BT were promoting their new mail service (which I certainly don't want)? I wish to go on using Outlook directly.

Any other solutions would be most welcome - especially if they came from BT paying attention to this thread.

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

I have become so frustrated with this that I have stopped Outlook 2007 from trying to pop my mail from Btinternet.  Intead, I use this workaround:  I have set up a gmail account and I have it set to receive my BT mail via pop.  I then have Outlook set to receive mail from the gmail.  This avoids the annoying password prompt, as thus far, gmail has had no trouble retrieving the email from BT.  Shame on BT that I have to use a third party email provider in order to receive my mail into Outlook!

Why not just use gmail as my email account?  Perhaps I will, but my experience so far has been that BT Internet filters out more spam than gmail, so I think I will leave things as they are at present.

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

I've been getting a variety of logon related error messages using Outlook, as well as being intermittently asked for my password, and also waiting forever for send and receive to complete. Likewise i have a friend that I'm helping who has exactly the same (actually abit worse). When I've spoken to technical support at BT, they basically havent a clue, they are not competent enough to address these problems. I even had one the other day say to me, 'I don't know we havent been trained in this so I cant help'.....THIS IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. I've even spoken to them saying that there are forums on BT where this is being discussed as a known problem, and again they are clueless, they know nothing of the problems that are highlighted in these forums.

IS THERE ANYONE FROM BT THAT READS THESE FORUM POSTINGS! YOU ARE FAILING YOUR CUSTOMERS!

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

Don't use BT/Yahoo email myself but I provide support to someone that does.

They have just called me reporting that Outlook is regularly prompting for username/password

Have run wireshark on their machine and found it to be reporting the same error as above.

Re: Intermittent POP3 email logon failures

I do not understand why some days this problem hardly occurs and others the pop ups happen a number of times per hour. It is unbelievable that after 4 months BT has not totally rectified the problem.
