Intermittent loss of broadband connection

When playing online games my home hub randomly appears to lose connection and the yellow light comes on - after a couple of minutes it seems to sort itself out and the light turns blue again and I regain connection. It appears to be quite random but over the last couple of weeks the regularity of this has increased a lot and is making gaming virtually impossible.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Re: Intermittent loss of broadband connection

@balaks

There could be a number of reasons, but to try and help:

  • What Hub are you using?
  • What socket is the hub plugged into?
  • Is it using any phone extension leads?
  • Any other sockets in the house?
  • Have you tried a phone in the socket to see if there is any "noise"? - Dial 17070 option 2.

Let us know and we can see what we can do to help.

Kind Regards

Re: Intermittent loss of broadband connection

Thanks for the response:

  • What Hub are you using? - Home Hub 5 - Type B
  • What socket is the hub plugged into?- The main telephone socket in the house
  • Is it using any phone extension leads? - No
  • Any other sockets in the house? - No
  • Have you tried a phone in the socket to see if there is any "noise"? - Dial 17070 option 2. - Dont own a landline phone but I might get a cheap one to check this.

Re: Intermittent loss of broadband connection

can you post stats from hub - troubleshooting then helpdesk

have you tried using test socketwith a filter which is behind bottom half of master

you really need to check your line with a corded phone as it could save you the call out fee of £129.99 just for a £5 investment in a cheap corded phone

Re: Intermittent loss of broadband connection

are you connected to test socket with a filter?  if so did you check other sockets for dial tone?

Re: Intermittent loss of broadband connection

If the filter is the little white box that the modem gets connected to which then goes into the socket then yes it was connected with a filter. I had been using the normal socket but have now unscrewed the front plate of the socket and have connected the filter to what I assume is the test socket.
