Re: Internet disconnects but no resync occurs?

Go to solution
i don't agree with you imjolly and john that its the snr thats causing the ppp to drop. it has to be something to do on the backhaul network side or in that remit, not with the physical connection on the copper legacy network. if the CRC's were so high then it would drop the physical connection not just the ppp session, and dlm wouldn't have lowered the snr margin to 3dB again if it didn't think the line could hold it. so i still say that it should be further investigated by the bt wholesale diagnostics team.

I think you are right Astar27 , to me that sounds more correct as the connection to the exchange is not the part that is dropping its the PPP session. like you said.
Thanks

Re: Internet disconnects but no resync occurs?

it's certainly another possibilty to be considered.

I would wait and see how your current connection gets on and if it stays stable

the dlm does reset back to 3db even when people have had problems and had reset to 6db - maybe theory says it shouldn't but practice says it does

Re: Internet disconnects but no resync occurs?

I will wait a day or two and see how the connection goes, and If it does still drop I think it needs to be looked at by the bt wholesale diagnostics team like Astar27 says.
Thanks

I totally agree with you on that IMJ there are many posts  that that the DLM resets to 3dB and the only way to stop it is  as has been seen to  have the SNR fixed to 6dB rather then a simple reset  as  I remember Keith commenting  on the SNR being Fixed to solve the problem

There is no reason why a line should be restricted of its full potential when the ppp issue is such a simple one to fix.

I'm not convinced you are correct but would be a good solution if you are rather than a higher noise margin - just need to wait and see

Re: Internet disconnects but no resync occurs?

Its probably a misconfigured port that gets overloaded and because it's not configured properly it has to drop the session

Okay the problem just happened about an hour ago, I was out at the time but the stats show that it did. the adsl stats are still showing a high connention time though while the Internet  connection infomation only says about an hour and a half.
