I am receiving the following error code when using the new BT email platform. I have tried sending via a group email that I have used for years and get the error code: Invalid mail address, must have a domain part [Err code: 501]
So tried adding names individually - received the same error. I can forward the email to my iPad and then send ok - so I goes this is a bug in the new BT system.
Any ideas about resolving this?
Thanks
When you say you tried sending via group email, do you mean using the "reply to" function or using a "Group" of email addresses that you have set up in your contacts folder?
If you are adding the email addresses individually into the address box you must ensure that the email addresses are separated by a comma. When you do that it "individualises" each address in the address bar.
I am getting this error too and in reply to gg30340, this is nothing to do with how the email addresses are formatted. They are all formatted correctly and in fact BT have correctly detected them as individual addresses by turning them into 'email buttons' (i.e. "individualised").
In my case, I received an email which was addressed to a number of individual email addresses. It was only when I did a "Reply All" that I got the error.
I agree with the previous person who said it is a bug! @BT please fix it

I was replying to the OP of the thread so until he/she replies I wonder how you know that it is not a formatting problem with their email addresses.

Fully agree with @philcooper99 - this is surely a bug - I have tried many different formats and entered address in so many times and keep getting the same error. This is a critical fix for me as I groups extensively. @BT are you able to give a fix time please?
Now that you have replied with the useful information that you are entering the email addresses correctly and that it would appear to be a "bug" I will inform the moderators who will no doubt pass that information onto the BT email team.
I've just experienced the same error code, but slightly differently. I composed a "Reply" email and added two bcc addresses and got the error code message when I tried to send. I tried again and after deleting one of the bcc addresses each time it turned out to be the original sender's address that was causing the problem! Has to be a bug.
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for posting and for highlight this issue.
My colleagues in the email team have been looking into this over the weekend and they believe they've identified what is causing the error. The error only affects some recently migrated user's contact groups. Some of the data we were given includes commas in the names and that is causing the issue.
The email team is working on getting the data corrected. In the meantime, if you check your contacts and remove any commas in the name field this should stop and error from happening.
Thanks
Paddy
Any idea of a fix it time please? This is getting very frustrating and I don’t rally have time to remove commas. Just checked and I can’t see any commas in any of the email address that I have. Is this what you meant ...or was it commas between address in the send bar once entered? The system is separating the names using a box...does that info help you sort out the issue?
Thank you for posting back. The email team is working on this but the fix will take a few days.
Just to clarify, the issue occurs when there are commas within the name associated with the email address (not the email address itself) in the contacts Address Book.
If you go into contacts and look at the contact that is failing and see if there is a comma in the "name" fields? If there is if you remove that comma it should resolve the issue.
Thanks
Paddy
