Is my Port 25 being blocked?

Hi there

For the past couple of days I've not been able to send any emails - it was fine up util the 21st July, and I have not altered any of the setting in my Entourage program, everything is set up as it should be, SMTP is set up with authentication and it was working perfectly until then. Nothing has changed at my end so I have to wonder if I'm being blocked.

Is there anyone out there who can shed light on this?

There are a few addreses that I email on a regular basis now suddenly I'm unable to send anything -

All it tells me is "Mail Error - Unknown Address" which is **bleep**, but there is an error code: Error 5550

I haven't altered anything at my end and cannot understand why it should suddenly stop working

I'm on a G5 iMac, running Mac OS X 10.4.11, with MS Entourage X

Hope to hear from someone with a solution to this hassle

Cheers

Akeel

BTYahoo don't block port 25 - not for me, anyway...

Which SMTP service are you using - mail.btinternet.com or something else ?

Can you try port 587 - does that work ?

Is there anyone out there who can shed light on this?

Can you Telnet to the server ?  can you see a log of a failing connection ?

Have you read this http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tg.online/macfaq/oe_errors/html/5550.html, it may help to identify the problem.

Or enter "error 5550" into Google.

I'm using "smtp.outitgoes.com" which is tied in with Heart Internet, where my website is hosted, the emails are going via my domain name,I went to Heart Internet's support database,

The only option appearing on my dialog box in entourage is "Override default SMTP port [25]"

Can you try port 587 - does that work ?

Not too sure how to go about changing to port 587

If you don't mind me saying, all the info seems to indicate that you are not with BT Broadband. These forums are specifically for BT users, not really general info for non BT ISP stuff.

My apologies .. but you said your IP address was on the CBL. Are you with BT business or BT residential ? The BT res users are all dynamic IP addresses, so any IP address on the CBL is either by pure chance if owned by someone previous who had "a problem", or something else. Simply getting a new IP address will sort that out.

What was the actual problem ?
