As the title says. My hubby was watching a recording of forged in fire and just as the winner was being announced the recording ended.
surely in this day and age we shouldn’t have to put up with this sub standard service. When you call BT they just haven’t a clue what to do about it and they just say it’s not actually our box. Whose ****box is it then and why aren’t they fixing this 6 years after folk were complaining.

Go into the setting and set up "time padding". It extends the start stop times so that you do not miss things if the broadcaster does not stick to the scheduled times.
Sorry for misleading post. I don't have a BT box but as virtually all TV PVRs have "padding" I assumed that the BT one would have it. Having searched the forum I now see that it doesn't have "padding". What an important omission.
Hi @Bobbs
Was the episode recorded on a Thursday at 9pm on History? I'm asking because that's when I record Forged In Fire and I don't ever remember having an episode cut short.
It's a regular occurrence on some channels such as Alibi though. Not having padding would be okay if the broadcasters could put the AR signal in the right place, but they can't and I doubt that they ever will. Series Link is another example of something that they can't manage properly. It's especially annoying when BT and Sky can't even do it for their own channels.
I've not had this issue myself, but only because I don't record a lot.
However, many users do come across it quite often, and it must be really annoying.
My understanding of the issue is this...
The program maker or broadcaster provide metadata to people like Youview/BT, for example, when I program is due to start and end, and the Youview/BT box then uses this to control a recording.
The problem is that this metadata often doesn't get updated when I program runs late, (it should be!), so the box cuts of the last few seconds or minutes of the program.
There is however there is a very simple method for handling this, which many boxes already use, and that is providing a setting that allows users to select a "padding duration" to a recording, for example, 1min, 5mins, etc...
So even though the box receives the metadata from the broadcaster that the show should have finished, the box adds on the amount of time the user has selected, which on most occasions is enough to manage the overrun.
However, for some reason Youview/BT seem unwilling to implement this common feature, and I'm not sure why.
I can only guess that there may be some complex legal reason, however, it is a common feature on boxes and a simple solution to the issue.
I can only suggest that we come together and try and rise support for the feature through these forums, that way BT might start to take notice, or, explain the reason why even if they wanted to implement it, they can't.
I'll start a new thread called something like "Please add a padding option when recording"
I'm sure something like this has happen in the past, but lets give it a go!
Anyone interested in the feature can join the thread and give their input.
These forums I think are mainly about user support and not about feature requests, however we can give it a go.
There are a couple of very helpful MODS on here that have pass pass feedback to the relevant BT departments, and I will include them.
