BT Sport streams fairly smoothly on my iPhone and Windows 10 desktop using their respective apps. It's still only 25fps, compared with the 50fps you'd get on a normally telly, but the picture quality is still fairly good with no judder. It looks even better on the desktop if I set the monitor refresh rate to 50hz.
I'm having absolutely no luck on my iMac however (which unfortunately is serving as our main TV at the moment). As there is no app available, I have to use the online flash player through the safari browser and this simply refuses to stream video smoothly. There is a persistant 'judder' to the image and it appears as though frames are dropping or not displaying at an even rate. This is most noticeable when the camera pans from one end of the pitch to another. The quality of the image itself is fine and there are no buffering issues but any sort of motion just looks incredibly poor, like an online video from the late '90s.
I have tried updating flash player, disabling hardware acceleration (this just makes it worse), using different browsers and changing the refresh rate to 50hz but the problem remains. CPU usage is low and I have a 50mb/s connection so it's definitely not caused by a lack of performance. I suppose I could install Windows 10 on the mac using bootcamp to use the app but this seems a little drastic.
Does anyone have any suggestions for improving the smoothness of the stream on a Mac? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 .

I've found a partial workaround so thought I'd post here in case anyone else finds it useful.
I downloaded a programme called AirServer which effectively turns my iMac into an Apple TV and lets me stream BT Sport using my iPhone and use AirPlay to show this on the computer. This combined with a custom refresh rate of 50Hz (set using SwitchRex) results in a fairly smooth picture.
