I have just moved in to a house last week. It is a 1970's house.
We had a builder round doing some bits in the kitchen and I believe he has cut the phone cable!
Basically I have tried to find a working phone socket and the only one I can locate in the house is half way up the kitchen wall!!! where the builder has been and he has removed the facia... the cable inside is only about 1 inch long and has a clean cut to the end. This leads me to believe the builder or someone has cut it recently!!
Now I have been all over the house looking for another socket or a master socket but cant find anything! is it possible that this socket in the kitched could be the old master socket?!?! and be the only socket in the house!!
its in a really odd location, about 1.5 metre from the floor in the middle of the outside wall of the kitchen.... this is on the opposite side of the house to where the phone line connects to the house outside!!
I would be extrememly grateful for any help or light anyone can throw on this!! I dont know what to do!! I need and phone and more importanlty internet!!
The box on the wall has such a short piece of cable that I can't put a new socket in there!!
Do I need to call BT and get them to come have a look!? I am fairly experience in re-wiring items if anyone has an idea of what I can do!!
I really do appreciate any help anyone can give 🙂

Hello @Ronsil82 any chance you can take a pic of the socket and post it here as a reply?
I would double check it's the right one, and then have a word with your builder, if he cut it, you are gonna need to charge him for it. Openreach (part of BT) will most likely charge for an engineer to fix it.
Let's investigate a bit, before we go down any roads.
Below is a picture of the socket, not really much to see!! we moved in last week and it was just an old phone socket. I know the builder removed it as it was very wonky and he was painting stuff!!!
But now all I have is the tiny bit of cable inside!!
I have searched the whole house and cant find another socket!!
Odd thing to ask, did they builder not leave the front of the socket? Did he chuck it out?
Looks like a back plate, and if that's the ONLY socket you have in the house, it's a job for Openreach.
Who currently supplies your phone/broadband service? Or who is about to?
I asked the builder and he said the facia was cracked so he threw it away!!!!!!
Yes as far as I can see that is the only socket!!
We are with Vodafone for Broadband.
Ok I will call BT and see what they say 😞
Thank you so much for your help

BT won't be able to help, unless you are moving to BT Retail.
Vodafone and Openreach will handle this for you.
Thank you so much for all your help. I shall contact them and see what we can do.
