Just signed up with BT Broadband Option 1 but have terrible connection speed

Go to solution

HI,

I have just moved into my property which had Virgin already there but being a long term customer of BT I signed up to BT Broadband, I was told the expected speeds for my address would be 2 to 6.5MB estimated at an average of 3.5MB.

Because of this I chose BT Broadband Option 1 but so far the speeds have been terrible.

Below are the results of the speed tests I have done most after 11.00pm at night.

15/12/11   Download 0.60Mbps   Upload 0.36Mbps

17/12/11   Download 0.39Mbps   Upload 0.36Mbps

19/12/11   Download 0.42Mbps   Upload 0.36Mbps

20/12/11   Dowmload 0.39Mbps   Upload 0.36Mbps

BT Engineer installed the master (only socket) and the cable from the Telegraph pole to my property was replaced, my router is connected to this socket with the filter and telephone too.

The previous property was giving me over 4Mbps to just downloading a single is taking ages now.

I have tried the quiet test with a corded phone and all seemed fine to me plus at the moment I only have the one telephone socket.

Any constructive advise would be appreciated.

you need to provide the adslstats from your hub and also run btspeedtester and post the results

Hi Welcome to the forums

If you post the full stats from your router

For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser

Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it

Click on More Details and then post the full results.

also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397

Then someone here may be able to help and offer more advice.

your connection time is only 24min is that due to a manual reset or the router dropping connection.  have you been having problems with the router dropping connection as your noise margin is higher than normal 6

I had to reset the router as the broadband light was flashing. I managed to get the speed test to work using Firefox and these are the poor results
