Laggy Connection - BT Infinity

Hi All,

I'm a newbie on this forum, but i'd be interested to get others' opinions and experiences on this. I have BT infinity which speedtests at 55-60mb and the pingtest comes back at around 21ms but i'm experiencing high packet loss. My connection feels much slower than the tests would suggest is should be and the browsing experience is poor as pages timeout/fail to load. I've completed a tracert and pathping and it appears that there is an issue on the network at node 217.32.141.0

Resetting my VDSL (openreach) modem will help in the short term as the profile re-builds but after about 2 weeks i'm back to square one. Anyone else experience this?

Traceroute and Pathping results below:

Re: Laggy Connection - BT Infinity

are you using wired or wireless conenction?

go to hub manager if hh5  then troubleshooting/helpdesk and post 1-12

run btspeedtester and when first test completes run diagnostic test and post results  MUST be done wired

btspeedtester

Re: Laggy Connection - BT Infinity

i'm running a wired connection for the tests to alleviate any loss from the wireless connection. The Results from the diagnostic test is below.

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

 Download Speed
 59.16 Mbps

0 Mbps60.4 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 59.16 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 60 Mbps-60.4 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 60.4 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.

 Upload Speed
 2.6 Mbps

0 Mbps20 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 2.6Mbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

This test was not conclusive and further testing is required. This might be useful for your Broadband Service Provider to investigate the fault.

If you wish to carry out further tests, please click on 'Continue' button. If not, please close the window using 'Exit' button and contact your ISP for further assistance with these results.

Re: Laggy Connection - BT Infinity

Can you paste the results in the form of a screenshot so that the bars are coloured? I think the very low upload speed is indicative of an upstream fault, your throughput appears to be just below the speed that Wholesale considers "acceptable" for your line (59mbps but minimum is 60mbps).

Re: Laggy Connection - BT Infinity

As it indicates, regardless of your IP profile being above the minimum, your throughput speed is below Wholesale's acceptable minimum of 60mbps, indicating some sort of fault, which might be the start of a possible congestion issue.

I'm not sure if you should report this via helpdesk (as they're likely to fob you off), I wonder if a CL could highlight this to the mods to look into?

Your upload is way too low and I'd expect around 12-15mbps upload for a throughput speed of just under 60mbps.

Can you enter your phone number and post the results, remember to delete number: http://dslchecker.bt.com
