Latency / Interleaving issue

Hi there,

Around five days ago my ping to various servers has increased by about 20ms. Before hand if I were to ping www.bbc.co.uk id get 20ms average, currently its pinging at 43ms average. My immediate thought was that interleaving had been enabled on my line again for some reason, so I went to the hub stats and it still read Latency Type : Fast. My line stats are pretty much what they have always been, never experienced a drop in connection speed. I've tried everything from wired / wireless connection, connecting my router directly into the master socket, reformatting my computer, pinged from other devices but sadly nothing fixed the issue.

I know this might not seem like a huge problem to some, but I specifically asked for interleaving to be disabled on my line so I could achieve lower ping times, regardless of what downstream speed I get.

One thing to note is that usually when I run a Speedcheck on my line it comes up with an estimated 4mb but since having this issue its reading at 5mb. Could my line possibly have been switched to a different profile? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Re: Latency / Interleaving issue

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Re: Latency / Interleaving issue

When I attempt to run diagnostics on the wholesale checker I get the following error,

The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

Re: Latency / Interleaving issue

Yep, a manual reset. I've never had issues with the line dropping before.

Re: Latency / Interleaving issue

what about quiet line test

your noise margin is very high at 15db as normal 6db suggesting either line noise or drops/resets in conenction or both

Re: Latency / Interleaving issue

Quiet line test sounds normal, I've had this noise margin since I can remember and as stated ive never had issues with line drops or connection resetting. There has been no physical change on my end since before and after this problem has occured. A tracert to bbc.co.uk to show you what seems to be like interleaving.
